Education Programme and London 2012

BT will be contributing to the London 2012 Education Programme by developing a project to deliver Communication, Collaboration and Citizenship skills.

Coaching

Our plans are not yet firm, but we see coaching as an essential life skill, relevant to a great many other aspects of life besides sports. Our aim is to turn the UK into a nation of coaches, by skilling adults (particularly parents) so they can help young people unlock and develop their talents.

The programme will be based on the premise that everyone can be an effective coach if they are familiar with the basic skills of coaching, which are communication-intensive. You don’t have to be (or have been) an outstanding performer in order to be an effective coach. In fact, peer-to-peer coaching (co-coaching) can be highly effective, yet doesn’t depend on the coach-as-expert model.

The NCB believes that people can be effective coaches in just about any activity they have some expertise in, from cooking and cycling to business skills and bowling.
