Why Coaching?

Coaching links to the three skills of Communication, Collaboration and Citizenship in BT's Education programme:

  • Communication is the key enabling skill of coaching. In fact, it’s impossible to be an effective coach without a set of effective communication skills.
  •  Coaching is a quintessentially collaborative activity because both sides of the relationship have the same overriding goal (a requirement of collaboration); namely to improve the performance of the ‘learner’.
  • Coaching has a central role to play in active citizenship, since coaching has a contribution to make in just about every setting of life, from school and community to home and the workplace. Coaching is at the heart of effective parenting and is a powerful tool for preparing young people for life after school. It’s also at the heart of many voluntary activities (such as music and dance), which promote social cohesion.

We believe that our coaching programme could have a very positive impact on society, as it will have the capacity to develop a nation of skilled parent-coaches. If we as parents/adults become more skilled and motivated to coach, there will be obvious social, and possibly even economic benefits.

"Think of the immense reservoir of expertise that would made be available if more people caught the coaching bug. Coaching-for-all is a rising tide that lifts all ships. "
