Big Takeover

On 23rd November 2007, young people across England had the chance to take the reins of schools, businesses and even government departments, during the first ever national Takeover Day - created by independent organisation 11 MILLION.

What is BT's role?

BT not only promoted the event by supporting those employees who wished to mentor a young person, but took the next step by celebrating the 11 MILLION Takeover across all of its UK locations.

The BT Big Takeover provided outstanding opportunities for young people to learn new skills at the world's oldest communication company.

“The 11 MILLION Takeover presents a fantastic opportunity for young people to shadow our employees, take part in practical activities and suggest changes to the way we work. It also forms an important part of the BT Better World campaign − and our continued commitment to listen to and act upon the voices of young people.”says Beth Courtier, Head of Charity Programmes at BT.

What is 11 MILLION?

These values tie in with the aims of 11 MILLION. Set up in 2005, and chaired by England's first Children's Commissioner, it exists to give all eleven million young people in England a voice, by reflecting their different lives, ideas and experiences. You can find out more by visiting 11 MILLION website.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the day with Katrina, and found her input extremely valuable. Her perspective on some of the activities we are currently engaged in was very refreshing - it sparked a number of ideas which we will try and build into future activities."

Adrian Hosford, Head of CSR, BT.
