Big Takeover

On 7th November 2008, young people across England had the chance, once again, to take the reins of schools, businesses and even government departments, on Takeover Day - created by independent organisation 11 MILLION.

What is BT's role?

BT promote the event by encouraging employees to mentor a young person for the day.

The BT Big Takeover provides outstanding opportunities for young people to learn new skills at the world's oldest communication company.

“The 11 MILLION Takeover presents a fantastic opportunity for young people to shadow our employees, take part in practical activities and suggest changes to the way we work. It also forms an important part of the BT Better World campaign − and our continued commitment to listen to and act upon the voices of young people.”says Beth Courtier, Head of Charity Programmes at BT.

What is 11 MILLION?

These values tie in with the aims of 11 MILLION. Set up in 2005, and chaired by England's first Children's Commissioner, it exists to give all eleven million young people in England a voice, by reflecting their different lives, ideas and experiences. You can find out more by visiting 11 MILLION website.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the day with Katrina, and found her input extremely valuable. Her perspective on some of the activities we are currently engaged in was very refreshing - it sparked a number of ideas which we will try and build into future activities."
