What is it?
It's a brand new school opening in Harpurhey, North Manchester, in September 2010. The Academy will offer full-time education for students aged 11 to 18 and will provide a centre of excellence for the combined teaching of communication, collaboration and the use of technology.
Why a Manchester Communication Academy?
The Academy is being created as part of a programme to update and transform Manchester's education and give young people the skills and qualifications they need to compete effectively for jobs and fulfil their potential.
What is BT's role?
BT is the lead partner of the Academy, along with Manchester City Council, MANCAT and City College, Manchester. As the lead partner, BT will be providing teaching staff and students with expertise and experience in education, communication, ICT, and the world of work.
What will the Academy bring to students and the wider community?
A stimulating learning experience for people from all backgrounds, a challenging curriculum providing skills and competencies relevant to future careers, and specialist teaching in key life skills of communication and collaboration.
A range of facilities open to the community, evenings, weekends, and school holidays, will turn the Academy into a community hub for the people of North Manchester, and a bridge to other learning communities in Manchester.
