St Lukes' Primary, Stoke on Trent

When Linda Cole realised how much her daughter’s school could benefit from the free resources and support available with the BT Volunteer programme, she became one!

The school was particularly interested in finding ways to support the citizenship curriculum, so they used the "BT Communications Skills for Young Citizens" DVD and its lesson plans, and delivered a very enjoyable and effective lesson for a year 5 class. The class wanted to do more and decided to create a video to demonstrate good and bad communication. The goal was to produce the video to present to teachers, parents and children at the end of term.

A delegation of children went to BT offices and learnt how to record and produce a video. They then went back to the school, developed scenes of positive and negative communication, filmed them and edited them in the local BT office.

More than a hundred people came to the event at the end of term and the video was deemed a huge success. The children worked very hard but had enormous fun.

"Linda recognises that she just sowed some seeds – the school will continue to build on her efforts and take them further. Her goal now is to go into other schools and see if she can kick-start the same enthusiasm and drive for achievement."
