Seeing, hearing, doing – the North West Awards
On Friday 25th April, two winning groups from the 2007 Seen and Heard Awards descended on the Merseyside Youth Association in central Liverpool for the North West regional awards ceremony.
National winners, The Memorial Garden Project from Leyland, joined ScHoole PodCo, a class of young people from Hoole St Michael CE Primary School in Preston, for the special occasion hosted by Louise Ellman, MP for Liverpool Riverside, Mike Blackburn, BT Regional Director, and Peter Connor, BT Regional Manager.
The event included a breakout session where members of each project spoke about their project and what they had learned, and exchanged views on why it is important to involve young people. Louise Ellman then chaired the feedback session, and spoke about the significance of “seeing, hearing and doing”, which she said both of the groups had expressed in spades. When she asked the participants what should be changed, the young people spoke eloquently about the importance of child protection, salary equality and jobs for all! Louise promised to share these ideas with her colleagues in Parliament.
