2. Privacy Policy
The following statement explains our policy regarding the personal information we collect from you.
The use of personal information
In order to access certain areas of the website you will be asked to submit to us personal information about yourself and your educational establishment. By entering information in the requested fields, you enable us to provide you with the educational information and services you select. Your responses help us to personalise access to the site for our users and ensure we continue to provide content most appropriate to you.
In return for submitting this information, you will be eligible to receive our monthly newsletter and be granted access to our free resources and other content. The terms of this access may be changed or removed by us at any time.
You may cancel your registration at any time by emailing bt.betterworld-resource@bt.com.
Whenever you provide personal information, we will treat that information in accordance with this policy. Our services are designed to give you the information that you want to receive. We will act in accordance with the current legislation and will aim to meet current Internet best practice.
If you register, we will treat you as having consented to our using your personal data in the manner described in this policy.
Email addresses
At the Better World Campaign we respect the privacy of personal email accounts and we store your email addresses securely. We will not send you unwanted email messages or junk mail, and your details will not be passed to any organisation beyond BT without your explicit permission.
However, we may occasionally use email to inform you of changes to the content of the website or new developments in the Better World Campaign if you agreed to receive information from us. If you do not want to be kept informed in this way by email, please let us know by clicking on My details and unticking the box.
Disclosure of personal information
We are committed to collecting personal information fairly and to explaining how it will be used. We have legal obligations towards you in the way we deal with that data. Information you provide to us will never be supplied to anyone outside BT without first obtaining your consent, unless we are obliged by law to disclose it, or we engage third parties to process data on our behalf.
We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as you use the service you have requested, and remove it in the event that the purpose has been met, or you no longer wish to continue your registration as a user. We will make best efforts to ensure that all personal information supplied is held securely, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
Access to your personal information
You have the right under the Data Protection Act to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you and to have any inaccuracies corrected.
Use of cookies
In addition to the information that you supply when you register with us, information and data may be automatically collected through the use of session cookies. Session cookies are small text files a website can use to recognise a user during one entire session on a website and they allow the BT Education Programme to observe behaviour and compile aggregate data in order to track usage and improve the site.
Session cookies make it possible for you to access all of the registrants-only areas of the website after only one log in. Session cookies do not remain on a user's computer after exiting the site. Each time you visit the website you will be asked to log in.
Session cookies enable us to track usage of our site and we think it is important that you know that your usage may contribute to our statistics. However, your identity is not logged and neither is your individual usage data.
Users aged 16 and under
If you are aged 16 or under, please obtain your parent's/guardian's/carer's permission beforehand whenever you provide us with personal information. Users without this consent are not allowed to provide us with personal information.

Third party Internet sites that you can link to from our website are not covered by our privacy policy, so we urge you to be careful when you enter any personal information online. We accept no responsibility or liability for these sites. More details about BT's privacy policy.
