Positioning within BT CSR strategy

We support the development of young people’s communication skills, and encourage them to speak out on issues that are important to them in such a way that they will be listened to by adults. To help us be truly effective in this work we have teamed up with a number of organisations with a similar vision.

In partnership with ChildLine since 1986, we raise funds and provide free technology aimed at helping them to answer every one of the 4,500 calls they receive from distressed children every day.

Our work with I CAN and Place2Be puts early years communication at the centre of a child's development. We have produced a number of resources aimed at this age group, their parents or carers and their teachers.

We also provide support for young people at secondary school, encouraging them to take part in our inspiring Seen & Heard Awards. We work with the increasingly influential UK Youth Parliament to produce events, which bring young people together to discuss issues right across the social and political spectrum. And we have produced material to help these important members of our society take that step into adulthood, covering issues such as leaving school and going for those vital first interviews.

Over the last seven years we have built up a unique library of resources

Not all communication is verbal, of course. Art plays a large part in conveying ideas and emotions, so part of our contribution is making art more accessible to everyone. BT has worked with The Tate to make a large online library of original art, available to all for free.

But that's not all. On the Gallery pages of this site you'll see a selection of the wonderful work young people, using our resources, have made themselves - be they DVDs, podcasts, photomovies or paintings.

At the heart of our activities is the belief that all young people should have the communication skills they need for the best possible start in life. We want to enable their voices to be heard and be taken seriously in their communities. That’s why we have started The BT Better World Campaign, and receiving the hundreds of reports of so many inspiring success stories is why we continue.

Why not join us in our Better World Campaign.
